Here’s our light and breezy summer poncho for child size!. Worked in soft cotton yarn , ‘Hipster Cotton’ from Premier Yarns.

4.5mm Crochet Hook
Scissors
Large Pearl
Sewing Needles
Crochet Terms(US Terminology):
ch: Chain
st(s): Stitch(es)
dc: Double Crochet
trc: Triple Crochet
sp: Space
sk: Skip
slst: Slip Stitch
Gauge:
Row1: ch13, work 1dc on the 5th ch from the hook.(10 dc sts)
Row2: ch3 turn, 1dc on each st till the end(10 dc sts)
Row3-4: Repeat Row2
The Swatch should measure 3inches in height and 2.8 inches in length.
I have worked this pattern for a child size, however if you which to work this pattern for a different size work multiples of 4 chains for your foundation round(Round1).
This Poncho will fit child from 4 to 8 years(standard sizing)
Crochet Pattern:
Round1: ch 72, make sure your chain is not twisted. Slst on the starting ch
Round2: (ch3(considered as 1st dc), 1dc, ch2, 2dc) on the same ch, ch2, skip 3 ch, *(2dc,ch2,2dc) on the next ch, ch2, skip 3 ch*. Repeat * to * around. Slst on top of starting ch3. (18 shells)
Round3: work 2 Slst to reach the ch2 sp. (ch3(considered as 1st dc), 1dc, ch2, 2dc) on the same ch2 sp, ch2, *(2dc,ch2,2dc) on the next ch2 sp, ch2*. Repeat * to * around. Slst on top of starting ch3. (18 shells)
Round4-Round5: Repeat Round3
Round6: work Slst until you reach the ch2 sp. (ch3(considered as 1st dc), 2dc, ch2, 3dc) on the same ch2 sp, ch2, *(3dc,ch2,3dc) on the next ch2 sp, ch2*. Repeat * to * around. Slst on top of starting ch3. (18 shells)
Round7-Round14: Repeat Round6
Round15: work Slst until you reach the ch2 sp. (ch3(considered as 1st dc), 3dc, ch2, 4dc) on the same ch2 sp, ch2, *(4dc,ch2,4dc) on the next ch2 sp, ch2*. Repeat * to * around. Slst on top of starting ch3. (18 shells)
Round16: work Slst until you reach the ch2 sp. (ch4(considered as 1st trc), 7trc) on the same ch2 sp, ch2, *(8trc) on the next ch2 sp, ch2*. Repeat * to * around. Slst on top of starting ch3. (18 shells).Slst fasten off and weave the ends!.
Now if you want to add more detailing to your poncho, you can work this cute layered flower, however I have only worked 2 layers for this flower…
(Although we work 3 layers in the pattern)
Now add a large pearl to the center of the flower and sew the flower to the poncho.
