Granny Square has always been my favorite to work with!. Why?… the possibility with Granny Square is endless!. There are numerous projects you can work with Granny Square!
In this post I will be walking you through 4 popular granny square patterns. Let’s see them in detail one by one! . I have also added in a detailed video tutorial of all these four patterns at the end of this post!.
Pattern 1:
This is a classic granny square and a popular one!… let’s see how we are going to work this pattern!
Round1: Magic Ring ch3,2dc,ch3, *3dc,ch3*, Repeat *to* 2more times. Slst on top of starting ch3 (4 sets of 3dc separated by ch3 sp)
Round2: slst until the ch3 sp, (ch3,2dc,ch3,3dc) on the ch3 sp, ch1, *(3dc,ch3,3dc) on the next ch3 sp* , repeat *to* 2 more times .Slst on top of starting ch3
Round3: slst until the ch3 sp, (ch3,2dc,ch3,3dc) on the ch3 sp, ch1, 3dc in the ch1 sp of the previous row, ch1, *(3dc,ch3,3dc) on the next ch3 sp, ch1, 3dc in the ch1 sp of the previous row, ch1 *, repeat *to* 2 more times . Slst on top of starting ch3
Round4: slst until the ch3 sp, (ch3,2dc,ch3,3dc) on the ch3 sp, ch1, 3dc in the 1st ch1 sp of the previous row, ch1, 3dc in the next ch1sp of the previous row,ch1 .*(3dc,ch3,3dc) ,ch1, 3dc in the 1st ch1 sp of the previous row, ch1, 3dc in the next ch1sp of the previous row,ch1 *, repeat *to* 2 more times . Slst on top of starting ch3
Pattern 2:
This is another popular granny pattern!. This pattern is also called solid granny square!. Let’s see in detail how we are going to work on this pattern!
Round1: Magic Ring ch3,3dc,ch3, *4dc,ch3*, Repeat *to* 2more times. Slst on top of starting ch3 (4 sets of 4dc separated by ch3 sp)
Round2: ch3, 1dc each on next 3 sts, (2dc,ch3,2dc) on the ch3 sp of previous row , *1dc each on next 4 sts, (2dc,ch3,2dc) on the ch3 sp of previous row*, repeat * to* 2 more times.slst on top of starting ch3
Round3: ch3, 1dc each on next 5 sts, (2dc,ch3,2dc) on the ch3 sp of previous row , *1dc each on next 8 sts, (2dc,ch3,2dc) on the ch3 sp of previous row*, repeat * to* 2 more times, 1dc each on last 2sts. slst on top of starting ch3
Round4: ch3, 1dc each on next 7 sts, (2dc,ch3,2dc) on the ch3 sp of previous row , *1dc each on next 12 sts, (2dc,ch3,2dc) on the ch3 sp of previous row*, repeat * to* 2 more times, 1dc each on last 4sts.slst on top of starting ch3.
Pattern 3:
This is another beautiful granny pattern!. It looks like fillet crochet and looks very beautiful. Let’s see how to work this pattern!
Round1: Magic Ring ch3,3dc,ch4, *4dc,ch4*, Repeat *to* 2more times. Slst on top of starting ch3 (4 sets of 4dc separated by ch4 sp)
Round2: slst until you reach the next ch4sp, (ch3,3dc,ch4,4dc) on the ch4 space of the previous row, ch2 , *(4dc,ch4,4dc) on the ch4 space of the previous row, ch2 * , repeat *to* 2 more times., slst on top of starting ch3
Round3： ch3+ch2, (4dc,ch4,4dc) on ch4 space of the previous row, ch2, 1dc on the 4th st, ch2, 1dc on the next st,ch2, *(4dc,ch4,4dc) on the ch4 space of the previous row, ch2 , 1dc on the 4th st, ch2, 1dc on the next st,ch2*, , repeat *to* 1 more times., (4dc,ch4,4dc) on the ch4 space of the previous row, ch2 , 1dc on the 4th st , ch2, slst on top of starting ch3.
Round4： ch3+ch2, 1dc,ch2 on top of next dc of the previous row *(4dc,ch4,4dc) on ch4 space of the previous row, ch2, 1dc on the 4th st, ch2, (1dc on the next st,ch2)3times*, repeat *to* 2 more times., (4dc,ch4,4dc) on the ch4 space of the previous row, ch2, 1dc on the 4th st, ch2, 1dc on the next st, ch2. Slst on top of starting ch3
Pattern 4:
This pattern is my favorite of all the four. I am planning to make a beautiful bag out of this pattern!. Now let’s see how to work this variant of granny square!
Round1: Magic Ring ch2,dc2together, ch4, *dc3together,ch2, dc3together,ch4*Repeat *to* 2more times. dc3together, ch2. Slst on top of starting ch2dc2together.
Round 2: ch3,2dc on the ch2 space of previous row, ch2, *(dc3together,ch2,dc3together) on the ch4 space of the previous row, ch2, 3dc on the next ch2sp ,ch2*, Repeat * to * 2more times. (dc3together,ch2,dc3together) on the ch4 space of the previous row, ch2, slst on top of starting ch3.
Round3: ch3, 1dc on next 2sts,2dc on the ch2 space of the previous row, ch2, *(dc3together,ch2,dc3together) on the next ch2 space,ch2,2dc on the ch2 space of the previous row, 1dc each on the next 3sts,2dc on the ch2 space, ch2 *, repeat *to* 2 more times. (dc3together,ch2,dc3together) on the next ch2 space,ch2,2dc on the ch2 space of the previous row, slst on top of starting ch3
Round4: ch3, 1dc on next 4sts,2dc on the ch2 space of the previous row, ch2, *(dc3together,ch2,dc3together) on the next ch2 space,ch2,2dc on the ch2 space of the previous row, 1dc each on the next 7sts,2dc on the ch2 space, ch2 *, repeat *to* 2 more times. (dc3together,ch2,dc3together) on the next ch2 space,ch2,2dc on the ch2 space of the previous row, 1dc each on the next 2sts, slst on top of starting ch3
Round5: ch3, 1dc on next 6sts,2dc on the ch2 space of the previous row, ch2, *(dc3together,ch2,dc3together) on the next ch2 space,ch2,2dc on the ch2 space of the previous row, 1dc each on the next 11sts,2dc on the ch2 space, ch2 *, repeat *to* 2 more times.
