This is another cute pattern in my ‘Bubble Wrap’ collection. I can’t believe how cute these bag turned out!.
In this post I’ll be showing you how to make smaller size bag ideal for kids. However if you like to work the same bag in a bigger size, you can get both the patterns as a single downloadable file from my Etsy Shop(link below 👇)
Size of the Bags:
The Big Bag has a base with diameter 4.5 inches and height 6 inches.
The Small Bag has a base with diameter 3.5 inches and height 5 inches.
Materials:
You can use any size 4 yarn for this project. The Bag looks good if you work the Pebble Stiches in varigated yarn.
Yarn: Red Heart Super Saver Solids
Color: White
Yarn: Red Heart Super Saver Stripes
Color: Retro Stripes and Polo Stripes
Crochet Hook: 4.5 mm
Scissors
Stitch Marker
Gauge:
Using Size 4 Yarn and 4.5mm Crochet Hook work,
Row1: ch13, 1hdc on the 4th ch from the and 1hdc on each ch till the end.
Row2: ch2 turn(considered as 1st hdc), 1hdc on each till the end (11hdc sts)
Row3-7: Repeat Row2. Fasten off
It should measure 2.75” (inches) length and 2.6” (inches) height
For Big Bag:
Approximately 75 yards in Retro Stripes and 50 yards in solid color.
For Small Bag:
Approximately 55 yards in Retro Stripes and 40 yards in solid color.
We will be working on a stitch called as a Pebble Stitch which is a regular Puff Stitch except that it is worked on the Wrong Side(WS)
Pebble Stitch: * yo, insert the hook in the stitch and pull up loop, * repeat from * to * twice, yo pull through all the 7 loops.

Crochet Pattern:
Small Bag:
Start with White Color Yarn:
Round1: Magic Ring, ch3(considered as 1st dc), 11dc around the magic ring. Tighten the magic ring and Slst on top of starting ch3(12sts)
Secure the magic ring with a knot !
Round2: ch3(considered as 1st dc), 2dc on each st around ,1dc on starting st on which ch3 is made. Slst on top of starting ch3.(24sts)
Round3: ch3(considered as 1st dc), 2dc on the next st ,*1dc on next st and 2dc on the next st*. Repeat * to * around. Slst on top of starting ch3.(36sts)
Round4: ch1(not considered as st), 1hdc on the blo of same st, 1hdc on blo of each st around. Slst on top of starting hdc.(36hdc sts)
Round5: ch1(not considered as st), 1hdc on the 3rd loop of same st, 1hdc on the 3rd loop of each st around. Slst on top of starting hdc st (36hdc sts on 3rd loop)
Pebble Stitch: * yo, insert the hook in the stitch and pull up loop, * repeat from * to * twice, yo pull through all the 7 loops.
It’s a regular puff stitch except that it’s worked in the wrong side like a bobble stitch.
Change the Yarn Color to Retro Stripes or Polo Stripes:
Round6:(worked in WS) ch1(does not count as st) turn, 1sc on the same st, 1PS on the next st, *1sc on the next st, 1PS on the next st *. Repeat *to* around. Slst on top of starting sc(18sc sts and 18PS).
Change the Yarn Color to White:
Round7:(worked in RS) ch1(does not count as st) turn, *1hdc on top is sc of previous round, 1hdc on top of PS of previous round *. Repeat *to* around. Slst on top of starting sc.(36hdc sts)
Round8-15: Repeat Round6 & 7
The hdc rounds are worked in white yarn and pebble stitch round is worked in varigated yarn. After Round 15 you can fasten off the varigated yarn and weave the ends.
(You need not fasten off the yarn at the end of each round for changing the color , instead you can continuously work with both the yarn and change them at the end of each rounds. Check the link of video tutorial at the end to see how this is done)
With Yarn Color to White:
Round16: ch3(considered as 1st dc), 1dc on each st around. Slst on top for of starting ch3(36dc sts)
Round17: ch3(considered as 1st dc)+1ch, * skip 1 stitch, 1dc on the next st,ch1 *. Repeat * to * around. Slst on top of starting ch3(18dc sts with inbetween ch1 spaces)
This is where the drawstrings will go!
Round18: ch3(considered as 1st dc), 1dc on the ch1 sp of previous round, *1dc on top of dc of the previous round, 1dc on the ch1 sp of previous round*. Repeat * to * around. Slst on top of starting ch3. (36 dc sts). Slst, fasten off and weave the ends.
Drawstrings(Make 2):
Slipknot and work 80 ch, slst on 2nd ch from the hook, slst on each ch till the end. Fasten off!
Now insert one drawstring on Round17 and weave them around, when there is 5 posts inbetween join the ends of drawstrings and weave them. Move the weaved ends inside so that they dont show up!
Now insert the next drawstring after 4 posts from the 1st drawstring.and weave them around, when there is 5 posts inbetween join the ends of drawstrings and weave them. Move the weaved ends inside so that they dont show up!
